5 Things I’ve Learned My First Year Going Cruelty Free

At this time last year I was researching makeup brands, and finding out which were cruelty free. Here are five things that I learned about going cruelty free.

  • The first thing I learned was that it was difficult to find my holy grail cruelty free products. Mascara was one of the most difficult things to find, since I was obsessed with Covergirl’s orange lash blast mascara. I eventually found my holy grail which is Pacifica’s Dream Big mascara. I guess what I want to say is that it is a lot of trial error in switching to cruelty free makeup products.

  • Shop at TJMaxx for cruelty free brands. I bought Crystal deodorant, and Jason shampoo for a reasonable price at TJMaxx. I also found this gem (pictured) at TJMaxx, I only wish it was a larger container, since it made me feel like I traveled to Hawaii.

  • The brand E.L.F became my best friend. I really liked the eyeliner, and HD translucent powder (pictured). I also love E.L.F brushes. They are soft and affordable, I think the most expensive one is $3. Like are you kidding!

  • Buy samples or travel size makeup products. I bought the Vapour sample kit which was about $17 with shipping, but I got a $10 promo code, and I figured out which product I wanted to buy full size. You should definitely switch to cruelty free products slowly, and I think buying samples or travel size makes it easy because you can decide which product you like the most.

  • I became more aware of the ingredients in the products. I started watching Laura’s Natural Life on YouTube, and she made me aware of more green products that I should be using. Towards the end of the year I found out about The Organic Bunny, and I absolutely love her blog. For the new year I will be switching to more green makeup products. I will upload a blog post about why I am switching to green products later.

Please tell me what you think, and let me know what your experience has been since switching to cruelty free makeup products.

Thanks Beauties!

Best of Silk Naturals

Cheers! The end of 2016 is near. I’ve been wanting to write a post about Silk Naturals  since I purchased some products a couple months ago. So here’s my review.

HD Cream Highlighter in limoncello– You must try this highlighter, and I think it was in my November Favorites. The great thing about this highlighter is that you can apply multiple layers and you will look flawless. It stays put and you will glow all night long. It is vegan, cruelty free, and gluten free. The best part is that it is $4.50 on their website.

Sheer Blush in Lovelace ($6.50)- It is a medium shimmery peach blush, and on the website they compare it to NARS deepthroat blush. It is amazing, and cheap too. I love this blush, but I wish it wasn’t a loose formula.

Sheer Bronzer in Tahiti Sweetie ($6.50)- I honestly don’t know if it is my brush, or what, but this bronzer is sort of patchy on me. It does have good pigmentation, and I would suggest an easy hand when applying. I don’t use bronzer in the winter often, but maybe in the summer I will use this more. Personally for the winter I don’t really like this bronzer, and it isn’t creamy on me either. I would get a sample before you purchase it.

Brightening Concealer in #3 ($6.50)- I really should have bought #2, because #3 is a little dark for my under eyes. I do like this concealer though, and it is loose in a small jar. I think this concealer is good, but not my favorite.

Velvet Matte Lipstick in Bustier and Vice ($5.99)- I think these are mostly like lip balms. They feel thin on the lips, and I think these are good if you need a quick color on your lip, but I would apply a lip gloss over these colors.

My top products that I would recommend are the highlighter and the blush. Please let me know what you think or if you will be purchasing any of these products.

November 2016 Favorites

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! This month went by faster than hot pepperoni pizza at a party. lol I’ve been thinking about pizza all day, sorry about the basic girl analogy. I think this month was super great for me personally! Anyway these are my top five makeup products for November 2016.

img_1305

E.L.F Perfect Finish HD Powder ($6)

  • As you can tell from my previous posts, I love spending the least amount possible. I love how decently priced this setting powder is. I mean a girls got to have a pizza budget every month!
  • It’s translucent and it comes with a mirror which is a huge plus in my book.
  • It is compact, and it is pressed translucent powder. I hate having to deal with loose powders that are messy.
  • I think this is a great product for the price. I think it works great, and it holds my makeup very well. I do have to touch up a couple hours later, but I don’t mind.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario ($49)

  • I can’t believe this is the first product that I’ve ever purchased by ABH. The eyeshadows are super pigmented, soft, and creamy.
  • My favorite colors are 5th Ave, Lula, Isabel, Violeta, Kim, Muse, and Hollywood.
  • The colors are mostly neutral, which are great because I use those colors frequently.

Silk Naturals HD Cream Blush in Limoncello ( $4.50)

  • Again, for the price you can’t go wrong with this highlighter. I always get compliments on my highlight when I wear this.
  • It is a gorgeous golden color, and it is very flattering on my light medium skin color.
  • It comes in a stick formula. The way I apply it is by putting it on my finger, and then tapping it on my cheekbone.

Wet n’ Wild Eyeshadow Primer ($4.50)

  • I was running low on my Urban Decay Eyeshadow primer, and I saw this one at Target. After using it twice, I can definitely say that this primer works.
  • It does it’s job by keeping the eyeshadow in place.
  • It comes in a tube which makes it easy to use.

E.L.F Intense Ink Eyeliner ($3)

  • OMG this eyeliner is great!!! I can’t emphasize this enough. I was thoroughly impressed by this eyeliner.
  • It has a fine point, which is easy to use.
  • It lasts all day long! Seriously-it lasts all day long. I think for the price this is amazing! I would definitely buy this eyeliner again and again. It easily beats the Milani eyeliner that I reviewed in my last post.
  • I was surprised that this eyeliner was any good, especially because the tube is sort of short and thick.

These five products definitely impressed me this month, and I had to write about them. I felt super passionate about these products this month!

Review on Milani Eye Tech Eyeliner

Finding a cruelty free eyeliner this year was difficult. I used to swear by the Loreal gel eyeliner, and that was truly the only one I used all the time. Since going cruelty free though, I have had to experiment with many different types of eyeliner. A cruelty free gel eyeliner that I like is the Wet N’ Wild’s On Edge Creme Eyeliner, but in this post I will be reviewing a felt tip eyeliner. I paid about $10 for the Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eye Liner. I tried using it multiple ways before writing a review for it. I’ve had it for about three weeks. If you follow me on Instagram, which you should, I used the Milani eyeliner for the lines on my mouth for my skeleton makeup on Halloween. Below are the pros and cons of the Milani eyeliner.

img_0002

Pros

  • It has a pointy tip which makes it great for making a winged eyeliner.
  • It it super soft and it didn’t irritate my eyes at all.
  • The black color was intense.
  • The price isn’t too shabby considering the Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner is $20.
  • It lasted throughout the day with a classic eyeliner look.
  • It claims that it is waterproof, and I didn’t test it, but it didn’t smudge really throughout the day.
  • It is thin, and lightweight. It has a grip handle, which makes it easy to use.

Cons

  • After applying this eyeliner on top of eye shadow I still didn’t feel like it was pigmented enough.
  • When I used it to for a wing eye look, I noticed the edges wiped away throughout the day.
  • I didn’t try it, but this eyeliner if definitely for the top of the eyelids. I only use pencil eyeliners for the waterline.

This is a great eyeliner for the price.

If you have any recommendations please let me know.

Review of Juicy Beauty Face Primer & Cleansing Milk

Hey everyone! I’ve been wanting to do a review on these two Juice Beauty products for awhile. I have been using them for about three months. These were the first two products I ever purchased from Juice Beauty.

img_0713

First off, I didn’t really have an immediate impression about these products, which is why I didn’t review them sooner. I’ll start with the primer. I like that it doesn’t feel rough on my skin. I was using the NYX  Poreless primer, and it made my skin feel irritated. I like that the Juice Beauty primer felt nice, and clean on my skin. My makeup did smudge throughout the day with the Juice Beauty primer, especially on my t-zone, which is where I am oily the most. To be completely honest I don’t think I would repurchase this product.

Next, time to review the Juice Beauty Cleansing Milk. I have been using this to remove my makeup, and it does the job. I did notice however, that I had to rub coconut oil on my eyelids if I wanted to get my eye makeup off. I think the cleansing milk is good to take off face makeup, but not eye makeup. I don’t think this is the best cleansing remover, but it did make my skin soft. It did irritate my eyes, which is why I would rather use coconut oil.

What are your opinions on these products?

Too Many Nudes

Okay when you first opened this post you probably had a dirty thought, but I’m really talking about lipsticks, I just thought I should clear the air. Anyway these are some of the pinky nude lipsticks I always reach for. I am absolutely am obsessed with them, and I thought I would post them because I always get compliments and questions on what lipstick I’m wearing. The problem is that I reach for so many pinky nudes, and I’m really looking forward to expand my lipstick collection. I am in the market for reds, and dark lippies for fall. Any suggestions?

img_1079

NYX Intense Butter Gloss- Peanut Brittle (less pink nude)

NYX Intense Butter Gloss- Cookie Butter (very nude)

NYX Intense Butter Gloss- Tres Leches (pinky nude)

Silk Naturals Velvet Matte Lipstick-Vice (pinky nude)

Jordana Easy Liner for Lips- Rose Crush (pink nude) FYI I like to put this under the nude NYX glosses.

Colourpop Matte Lipstick- Bianca (Light pink nude) I don’t really like this formula, but I like using a gloss over it to make my lips feel more comfortable.

Colourpop Sheer Lipstick- Echo Park (my favorite sheer pinky nude)

Colourpop Lippie- Aquarius (dark nude and my favorite formula and color)

Colourpop Lippie- Oh Snap (matte nude) I also own the lipstick pencils for the colourpop lippies, I just didn’t picture them.

Cruelty Free and Green Beauty Brand: Silk Naturals

In my last post, I said that I bought some products from Silk Naturals. I’m really excited, because I got it in the mail today. Silk Naturals is cruelty free, and it is free of parabens, talc, powdered starches, etc. I was watching Laura’s Natural Life YouTube channel, and she is what really inspired me to check out their products. I am super interested in green beauty, and for that reason I decided to take the leap and go outside of my comfort zone and buy these products online. I am always hesitant to buy makeup online, because I can’t see the color and match it to mine. Stay tuned for a review of the products!!img_0940

Simple/Everyday Cruelty Free Makeup Products

My everyday makeup is super simple, mostly because I love sleep! I’ve been using these products for over a month now, and most of them are at the pan already. To be honest, I am planning on switching to green beauty. I am highly interested in trying new products, and I just purchased some Silk Natural products right now, so I can’t wait to get those in the mail.

img_0899

Primer: I’ve been using the Juice Beauty primer for awhile now, and it is extremely light weight. I was using the NXY poreless primer, and it made my skin feel dry, and uncomfortable after long term use of it. That’s why I decided to buy this Juice Beauty primer. I really did like it, but to be honest I will probably try another primer out. If any of you have any suggestions for a cruelty free or green beauty primer, please comment.

Foundation: Nars foundation is pretty solid (in Santa Fe). I like the foundation, and I love that it has lasted over two months. I use two pumps and it gives me full coverage. My skin is still breathable. The next foundation I’m going to try will be green though.

Concealer: LA Girl concealer is pretty topnotch. It is thick, and a little bit goes a long way. I really like this concealer, except that the tube can easily get too much product on it.

Mascara: I’m obsessed with Pacifica Dream Big mascara. Words can’t describe how happy I am with this mascara. Volume, length, and great lashes!!

Bronzer: Wet n’ Wild bronzer in ticket to brazil is great. I really like how the product goes on smooth, and it isn’t patchy. I’m glad I picked this one up this summer, and it has lasted a long time. I’m kind of sad that is almost up. Great budget bronzer!

Highligher: To be honest this was my first highlighter that I purchased, and I really love it. I love how creamy and shiny it makes my face! I would definitely recommend Colourpop’s wisp highlighter. I always got compliments on my highlight!

Eyeliner: The brown eyeliner I wear that I love, is Jordana 24 hour made to last eyeliner. It kind of stings my eye at first, but I love that it lasts a long time under my eyes. It is creamy too. The black eyeliner that I wear on top of my eye is NYX slide on and glide on. This is a great eyeliner for the top. I’m so surprised that it stays on, even after a sweaty day. It might smudge just a tad, but I really love how dependable it is.

Setting Powder: NYX Setting HD Powder isn’t my favorite. If I put too much it leaves a veil of white. I’m looking for a better setting powder asap!

Brushes: I’ve had these brushes for awhile. The elf one I use for my bronzer/blush. The urban decay one I use for my face, and I’ve had it for more than two years. It’s my fav.

Top 2 Cruelty Free Mascara’s So Far

Hi, sorry I haven’t written in awhile everyone. I’ve been busy, but it’s also because I haven’t found a product that I absolutely loved. I want every product that I recommend to be the best ever, and I want everyone to like it. Now I have been on the hunt for a good mascara, if you pay close attention to my instagram, you know I’ve been testing out a couple mascara’s. About two weeks ago I bought the vegan Pacifica Dream Mascara, because I always saw a lot of information about it on YouTube. I haven’t found a holy grail Pacifica product before, but this is definitely one now! Only downside that I have about this cruelty free mascara is price, I paid about $17 for this mascara after taxes, and I felt it was a little expensive, but then of course if you compare it to the TooFaced Better than Sex mascara($25) it’s pretty cheap.

IMG_0810

After using it for 3 days, I realized that you could twist the top of the wand for length, since I ways using it for volume. I was so impressed I felt like a baby who discovered candy for the first time. I really love the volume part of the mascara, because I have long thin lashes so I need it to get it together. It is super buildable, and that’s what I really like, because sometimes you just want a little bit of length and sometimes you want va-va-boom lashes. You know what I mean? I would definitely recommend this mascara. I think it is great if you need volume or length all you have to do is twist. I also love the packaging, I mean a unicorn on the wand…yasss (Currently obsessing over a unicorn tattoo now)!!  Anyway besos!

Glisten like a shiny apple, and shake to “Shine bright like a diamond”

First, if your favorite song is “Shine Bright like a Diamond” raise your hand! Yes love, you will shine just like Rihanna with this highlighter! I am in absolute love with the Colourpop highlighter in Wisp. I haven’t used too many highlighters in my life, but I mean wisp has me hooked like a baby to it’s teddy bear. I dab it with my finger, and a tap it on my cheekbone. I think it helps I have high cheek bones too! The one thing I don’t like about Colourpop‘s packaging is that they don’t have palettes. I think it would be great if they had a highlighter palette, that way you can just carry a variety of highlighters. Wisp feels light, and it makes my skin glisten like a perfect New York apple. I’ve never been to New York personally, but that’s what I know they are known for!

IMG_0487

The next product is Wet n’ Wild’s Max Volume mascara which is waterproof. Since I went to a music festival (EDC) I knew I was going to be sweaty, so I opted for a waterproof mascara, but I knew I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. This one costed $5.49 at CVS. Surprisingly, it felt like a $20 mascara. I think the wand is perfect. It is long, and thin towards the end, and it’s not bulky. I personally don’t like waterproof mascaras too much though, because they are difficult to take off at night. I think that’s my only con with this mascara. I did notice some flakes, but nothing too serious. If you have thin long lashes, and you are looking for volume, then buy this mascara. It’s also great if you are going to be in the desert or a festival for a long time, because waterproof mascara will hold a long time in dry and hot conditions.

I hope you all have a great 4th of July!

Besos!
